It can be practical, decorative, strong and yet fragile, but it really does make every room sparkle! In my living room I have 20 glass items at least.
Why do I love it so?
You know how sad a room looks after you've taken down the Christmas decorations, the room just doesn't feel the same, if I took all the glass out of my living room, it would feel the same. Sad.
Add glass to a room, and the room sparkles and reflects, it opens its eyes and twinkles. A room without glass can seem flat, matt, dull, but one with glass, has texture and depth.
I'm not a fan of polishing, apart from glass. Polished, cleaned glass lifts a room instantly, like cleaning the windows (which I also recommend to do regularly) it is by far the most satisfying job on my cleaning rota.
There are some items I could not replace:
My 3 glass candlesticks which I picked up for a bargain in a closing down sale, I've actually broken these over and over, but I love them so much I can't throw them out.
My bonbon jar which was gift from a friend, and gets filled with bonbon treats during the winter, or momentos or tealights. I've had this for 10 years, moved twice and not a chip on it (so I can look after things too)
Pillar candles in glass jars! I can't get enough of these, indoors or out.
Glass home accessories always feature highly on EatLiveSleep. I always pick glass accessories for every room and I always buy glass as gifts. In fact I hunt them out, so on a recent virtual fishing trip online I went straight for a favourite.
Cox and Cox is one of my favourites, I find it easy to navigate, everything is organised very simply, everything is easy to find, so I just keep coming back again and again!
I do spend (obviously) a lot of time browsing homeware retailers.
Occasionally, I must have something, absolutely MUST HAVE (this must be what some women experience with shoes!)
This mirror just jumped out of the new collections at Cox and Cox. I love the two tone, the depth, the colour...done, I'm hooked!
The Adalie mirror would be perfect in an entrance, I just love the double frame.
This bell jar oozes cool! I love the scale of it, 35 cm high, fill with a stack of pine cones or your favourite objet.
The thing I love about these glass frames, is that you could double up your photos. For instance, I have a console table in the middle of my living room, I display lots of photos of my children, which can only be seen from one side.
If, like me, you're not a fan of huge flower arrangements and also don't have Elton Johns budget. Just a single stem can be so beautiful. You need an over-sized vase and there just so many to pick from, but I love the bubble shape of this cloche.
Glass on the floor, I hear some of you scream 'No you must be crazy!', well no! Perfect for a corner in guest bedroom or even bathroom. This Demi John caught my eye because of the imperfections in the glass. Old glass has this quality which makes the reflections even more interesting. I have one in green.
As autumn is around the corner, I'll be stacking up on candles like a crazy woman. Hanging candles are just gorgeous. Never think of your accessories as just table or mantle high. Try hanging these in a dining room or over the table in a kitchen, if you have beams even better, if not then a large hook and some chain will work.
Fill glass bottles with colourful potions and creams, display guest soaps in glass apothecary jars. This soap dispenser caught my eye and brought back memories of a childhood in the south of France, we had these at school.
Smoky glass gets me at hello and HELLO to this set! I picked this bathroom set because in a white bathroom this would look amazing, the brushed brass tops are gorgeous. Perfect!
I have a teeny weeny tiny WC, everything (the few) that goes in it needs to be compact. This mirror is what I was looking for and a bargain at £35, I've seen similar for 3 times the price. Cox and Cox have one with a leather strap but I like the rope of the Cruise mirror.
And finally some extras for your bedroom. Glass table lamps come very high on my list, whether simple or more ornate. This fluted glass lamp is stunning, I also like shape of the shade that comes with it, only slightly tapered.
I just love glass gifts, giving them and receiving them. This bedside water carafe & glass set is the perfect finishing touch to your bediside table or for a guest bedroom.
