If you have people coming to stay, making the guest bedroom welcoming is such a lovely touch.
Think of the three senses:
Make it SMELL lovely
Make it LOOK relaxing
Make it FEEL really luxurious
So we've browsed the best homeware shops online to bring you ideas to help you style you guest bedroom.
And if you don't have a guest bedroom, well these would look great in your own bedroom!
So starting with the bed!
If you have a divan bed, try adding a box valance, otherwise it just looks a bit student house. Try these from The White Company and as a general rule steer clear of frilly valances. So if your room needs updating or if you have inherited the bed, add a box valance. A box valance will give a really tailored look and you dont have to stick to white cotton, try a neutral linen one?
It's such a simple addition but it can transform a room and make it look like you bought a new bed. Just measure your divan and check the drop of the valance you buy.
Habitat have a 50% sale on at the moment. Sales like these are a really good opportunity to update your bedlinen. So you could pick up a double duvet cover and 4 pillowcases for £64.00
A white cotton duvet cover and Oxford pillowcases are the perfect foundation to dress your bed, and the quality of the cotton at Habitat is excellent!
So go super luxurious at Kelly Hoppen. Kelly Hoppen is the queen of styling your bed, get inspired on her site for ideas on colourways and the trick to displaying your cushions.
Take note of the bedside accessories, we will cover those at the end of our feature.
Anthropologie is always the more colourful option, this Ponsonby quilt has a really gorgeous vintage and bohemian feel. It is reversible with a print on both sides!
If your basics are already set, then Houseology is where to head for great cushions. I would always recommend 2 pillows per person, so 4 in all. Make the base pillow a housewife case and the one on top an Oxford case. Then place your cushions.
We went hunting for some good advice and this video from Kelly Hoppen is a quick masterclass
So for a double bed, mix your textures and sizes. Try 2 larger square cushions, set behind 2 smaller square cushions and a smaller oblong one.
To finish off your guest bedroom, don't forget the little accessories!
