Bedrooms, like living rooms, can suffer from furniture up against walls, which gives for a really dull layout.
Here is a good weekend project:
Change the orientation of your bed.
Try placing your dressing table or chest of drawers or blanket chest at the foot of your bed.
Place a console table behind your bed to keep beside tables clutter free.
Use your window, even with curtains, by placing your chest of drawers or dressing table in the window. Just leave enough space behind it to draw the curtains.
Use the back of your door for storing bags, scarves, hats etc by using decorative knobs and hooks.
Add an occasional chair to avoid things getting thrown on the floor. Everyone needs a Chairdrobe, and if you do make it a gorgeous one!
For a guest bedroom, re-locate the wardrobe (use it as a laundry store elsewhere) and use more creative storage solutions. Your guests would appreciate a larger and uncluttered room, and let's face it, your guest wardrobe is probably being used as an overfill which isn't inviting!
Just a few of these changes will change your room hugely but also will change your own outlook. Rather than facing the wall when sitting at your dressing table, face the window and look out, and if you need to add sheers I would buy linen ones. Use your chest of drawers at the foot of the bed to display flowers, which would be in the centre of the room to add height rather than up against the wall. De-cluttering your guest bedroom will make your guests feel like guests rather than bunking down in a spare room!
The Camille chest of drawers from Swoon Edition, is a limited edition piece, so you won't see it everywhere! The grey & mint blue highlight would freshen up your bedroom and look fabulous at the foot of your bed with photos and flowers on top which would be lovely to look at when you wake up!
For a cleaner, minimal look, this Maconie dressing table from Habitat has a clever feature. Display all your make-up and jewels under glass, there's a hidden drawer for you to get access to them with out cluttering the table top! I love this!
Sometimes you need an extra throw on your bed and sometimes you don't. Either way you need a place to store it. If you buy a wooden blanket box it can be an extra seat for getting dressed, just add cushions and pull up your boots!
This box from Lombok is made from beautiful teak wood and is big enough to store your summer duvet.
If you want to add more space in your guest room, remove the wardrobe and re-locate it elsewhere. This wall mounted hanger is practical AND takes up no space, so your guests can benefit from the extra space.
