I recently did a massive sort out of my kitchen, including changing the lighting. Not a new kitchen, just sorting, throwing out and updating.
As I have previously blogged about, changing your lighting does totally change a room and even makes a room look freshly decorated.
Try adding task lighting, don't just blast your room with loud bright fittings, everything will look very flat. Instead, try adding some low hanging pendants either over your counter or dining tables. Never use flourscent lighting strips, unless they are hidden above cabinets or underneath plinths.
I found some perfect kitchen pendant lights...
These from made.com are currently £29.00!!! Yes £29.00 for 6 fittings!
I think the colours are gorgeous and I would use this as a task light over a counter or breakfast bar. Click here
This is style we went for in our kitchen, just a quick re-wire to get these hanging over the dining table. This pendant is really cute from Garden Trading because the flex is covered which gives it a vintage industrial look. Click here
And if you can't change your ceiling fittings, try adding some new table lights on window cills and dark counter corners.
Try something neutral but with some detail, here the Cohen lamp at made.com has a lovely wood detail to soften the look. Click here
Thes lofty lamps with add a soft tailored look, try adding on a window cill or sideboard, click here
Don't forget to give your electricty bill a rest by using low voltage LED light bulbs, head to Ikea for budget friendly and long lasting ones!
Sometimes just adding a new storage solution can make all the difference, especially if your countertop is over crowded. Try re-organising your cupboards and maybe relocating them to a stand alone unit, these are gorgeous!
This 'architects storage unit' from Garden Trading adds a very cool old school look! Click here
If open storage is an option then try these. I think open storage works great for pots and pans, or use baskets to keep your veggies to hand!
