You can not under estimate the difference that picking the right paint finish makes! I am hugely passionate about paint, colour and finish!
Tradition would dictate that walls are matt, wood gloss (eggshell if you are edgy) and front doors high high gloss blah blah
Well we say NO! Think again...
In the UK, we have the luxury of a wealth of paint finishes really easily available from some heritage brands, Farrow & Ball, Little Green, Mylands to name but a few. Little Green has been making paint since 1773, there's alot of experience there, so use it.
Don't just stick to a DIY own brand, use the expertise of these english institutions of colour, they are all online or all together at www.designerpaint.co.uk
Here are some great examples to inspire you to try a different finish!
If you want to use a matt paint for walls, use a chalky paint and paint your woodwork the same colour but you will need a matt wood paint, so go to the experts for advice. A gloss paint on the walls will be ever so glamourous, try gloss on walls or even ceilings!
If you just want to add a splash of colour, try painting a piece of furniture. For this home project you can buy any matt paint in your colour of choice and if you want a gloss version, just use a clear gloss varnish, it will be more hard wearing! We used a matt varnish in our home project, check it out and click here
The kitchen and bathroom are the rooms to try out some gloss paint. Gloss cabinets will add some great reflecting surfaces. But if matt is for you, try blackboard paint in the kitchen. It looks amazing, adds a very unique texture + it's really practical, you can write on it!
These examples of painted floors show variety in finish and colour. We do love the matt colour example, a shade darker than the walls and the white skirting just adds a clean line. The white room with white gloss floor boards just screams glamour!
