What utensils do you reach for everytime you step into your kitchen?
What could you not live without?
The tools we use in our kitchens become a very personal. Sometimes these are kept and loved year after year. Our editor and founder has done a run down of what she keeps on the kitchen worktop.
1. Tala dry measuring cup.
I bought this in The Conran Shop at least 15 years ago, and as soon as anything needs measuring, this is the no1 kitchen tool I reach for. Whether its a quick batch of pancakes or making rice, my Tala is well worn and a little battered! (excuse the pun)
2. My Goodman breadmaker.
In 2009 I embraced the credit crunch by starting to bake my own bread and never stopped. There is a loaf of olive oil bread on the bake at least every day and I never went back to buying shop bought sliced loaves. It also helps reduce the mess when making pizza or pasta dough and is rarely put away!
3. My 21st birthday present!
and now itself 21 years old and still on my countertop! My Alessi butter dish is in use everyday and is usually sitting next to cooling rack waiting for the bread to cool before kids and adults tuck in! It sparkles, its very heavy and has worn beautifully!
4. My garden rake utensil holder.
As the drawers got more and more filled with utensils, a little trip to a French flea market produced a quick solution to making my utensils a lot more handy to reach for! I bought two once-loved garden rakes and voila! No more rooting around for the parmesan grater or spatula.
